PRP & Prolotherapy
Precision Regenerative Injection Therapy for Joint Pain, Arthritis & Sports Injuries
Restore Function. Stimulate Healing. Get Back to Living.
Chronic joint pain doesn't always require surgery, and it shouldn't always begin with medications that simply mask symptoms. At RegeneZone®, our philosophy is to identify the underlying cause of pain and restore the health of the injured tissue whenever possible.
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) and Prolotherapy are two of the most established regenerative injection therapies available today. Although they work through different biological mechanisms, both are designed to stimulate your body's natural healing response, strengthen injured tissues, improve joint stability, and help relieve chronic musculoskeletal pain.
Every patient is different. That's why our physicians perform a comprehensive evaluation to determine whether PRP, Prolotherapy, or another regenerative treatment is most appropriate for your specific condition.
What is Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy?
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is an autologous therapy created from a small sample of your own blood. After the blood is processed in a specialized centrifuge, the platelets become concentrated into a plasma solution containing significantly higher levels of naturally occurring growth factors and cellular signaling molecules.
Once injected into injured tissue under ultrasound guidance, these platelets release bioactive proteins that help coordinate the body's repair process by stimulating collagen production, promoting new blood vessel formation, recruiting healing cells, and supporting tissue regeneration.
PRP has been extensively studied and is commonly used in orthopedics, sports medicine, and surgical healing because it utilizes your own natural biology to promote recovery.

What is Prolotherapy?
Prolotherapy is one of the original regenerative orthopedic treatments and has helped patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain for decades. Rather than utilizing platelets, prolotherapy involves injecting a carefully prepared proliferative solution—most commonly hypertonic dextrose—into weakened ligaments, tendons, and their attachment sites.
This controlled stimulation activates the body's natural inflammatory healing cascade, encouraging new collagen production, strengthening connective tissue, improving joint stability, and reducing chronic pain caused by ligament laxity or mechanical instability.
For patients whose pain results from joints that have become unstable over time, prolotherapy can be an extremely effective treatment option.

PRP vs. Prolotherapy
Patients often ask which treatment is better.
The answer depends entirely on the tissue that has been injured.
PRP and prolotherapy are not competing treatments—they are complementary regenerative therapies that address different problems within the musculoskeletal system.
For many patients, the most effective treatment plan may include both therapies at different stages of healing.
Successful regenerative medicine begins with an accurate diagnosis—not simply choosing an injection.
Our physicians evaluate the entire musculoskeletal system to determine the true source of pain and dysfunction. Using advanced orthopedic examination and diagnostic ultrasound when appropriate, we identify whether the primary problem involves tendons, ligaments, cartilage, joints, muscles, or multiple tissues.
Based on those findings, we develop a personalized treatment plan that may include PRP, prolotherapy, or more advanced regenerative therapies when clinically appropriate.
For many patients, regenerative injections are combined with rehabilitation, therapeutic exercise, nutritional optimization, photobiomodulation, extracorporeal acoustic wave therapy, or advanced orthobiologic treatments to maximize healing and improve long-term outcomes.
Our goal is not simply to reduce pain—it is to restore healthy tissue, improve function, and help you return to the activities you enjoy.

Precision Matters
The success of regenerative medicine depends on far more than the solution being injected. Accurate diagnosis, proper patient selection, and precise placement of the treatment are critical to achieving the best possible outcome.
At RegeneZone®, ultrasound guidance is utilized whenever appropriate to accurately target injured tissues while avoiding nearby nerves, blood vessels, and healthy structures. This precision improves treatment accuracy and helps ensure the regenerative therapy reaches exactly where it is needed.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Neither treatment is inherently better. PRP is often preferred for damaged tendons, cartilage, and partial tears, while prolotherapy is particularly effective for ligament laxity and joint instability. During your consultation, we determine which treatment best matches your condition.
-
Most patients tolerate both PRP and prolotherapy very well. Local anesthetic is often used, and temporary soreness for several days is expected as the body's natural healing response begins.
-
Treatment recommendations vary depending on the diagnosis and severity of tissue injury. Some patients improve after a single treatment, while others benefit from a series of injections performed over several months.
-
Yes. Many patients benefit from incorporating both therapies into a comprehensive regenerative treatment plan. Because they work through different biological mechanisms, they are often used strategically at different stages of healing rather than as competing treatments.
-
If you have chronic joint pain, tendon injuries, ligament instability, arthritis, or sports-related injuries and are seeking non-surgical treatment options, you may be an excellent candidate for regenerative injection therapy. A comprehensive consultation will determine the best approach for your specific condition.
